Where we are coming from
This site reads Scripture from within the Presbyterian Church in America, using the redemptive-historical method associated with Tim Keller and Edmund Clowney. Where the PCA has spoken, we follow it. Where it has deliberately left a question open, that latitude is itself the position, and we present the range rather than pick a side.
What we hold
- Scripture
- Inerrant, sufficient, self-authenticating (WCF 1).
- The gospel
- Justification by faith alone, on Christ’s imputed righteousness — forensic, not transformative (WCF 11).
- Covenant
- One covenant of grace, differently administered (WCF 7).
- Method
- Exegesis before application, always. What the text meant to its first hearers, and only then what it asks of us.
What the PCA leaves open
- The days of creation
- Calendar-day, day-age, framework and analogical readings are all held by faithful PCA ministers. The 2000 Creation Study Committee reported unanimously while its members differed. We present the range.
- Eschatology
- Amillennial and postmillennial views are both common; historic premillennialism is present. No position is required.
- Miraculous gifts
- Continuation and cessation are both held, though the PCA is broadly non-charismatic in practice.
- Sabbath observance
- Held pastorally rather than rigorously, within WCF 21.
